Centralværkstedet, in English “the Central Workshop”, including Smedien is the perfect venue for a bike show due to a location next to Aarhus central train station and the shopping centre Bruun’s Galleri which offers car parking capacity. Whether you arrive by car, train or bus Centralværkstedet is easily accessible.
In 2012 Centralværkstedet was restored in vintage industrial style as it was built over a century ago and the high ceiling offers a lot of natural light. Centralværkstedet offers around 1,700 square metres for exhibition including Smedien.
In 1862 a British building company finalized Centralværkstedet for operations as it served for maintaining locomotives and train cars for the region’s first railway inaugurated in 1862 between Randers and Aarhus. In the 1880 the workshop changed name to “De Danske Statsbaners Centralværksted”. Until the closure in 1990 it was one of Aarhus’ most important workplaces with 1,850 people working there in 1949.
After 1990 Centralværkstedet was the location for i.e. clothing and furniture outlets. After the complete restoration the workshop opened as venue for events, fairs and concerts due to among other things improved acoustics, heating and catering facilities.
